Design and Composition

designThe SLEEV-IT marine penetration seal is a stainless steel casing containing a measured quantity of graphite based intumescent that is mixed to a special formula called TRP 345 or Intumex L.

TRP 345 or Intumex L is graphite filled intumescent material containing flame retardant and a small selection of process aids.

In order for the SLEEV-IT marine penetration seal to operate at its optimum level, a specific level of intumescent mix has been identified that relates to the size of pipe work and the penetration being protected.

Therefore, multiple sizes of SLEEV-IT marine penetration seals are available for most pipe types and diameters with specific quantities of intumescent material included within the seal, to match the performance needs of the penetration size.

The array of sizes available in the SLEEV-IT range ensures the minimum of space is taken up on the deck or bulkhead. This also limits the amount of waste product being generated as only the required amount of graphite material is used to plug the void caused by the penetration.

SLEEV-IT marine penetration seals for plastic pipes with an outside diameter (o/d) of between 16mm and 50mm include a less aggressive and active type of intumescent material since the need for rapid closure is not as necessary as it is for larger penetrations.

The larger SLEEV-IT marine penetration seals (o/d: 63mm to 324mm) utilise a more aggressive type of intumescent material which closes the penetration quicker in order to comply with the insulation criteria of IMO Resolution A.753 (18).
