General Installation Guidelines

Sleev-It fire penetration seal installation guide
The installation of a SLEEV-IT marine penetration seal is simple and efficient due to it being designed to save both time and money.

SLEEV-IT marine penetration seals for pipe sizes of 50mm in diameter and upwards, have a toggle clip attached to the front of the stainless steel casing of the penetration seal. When this toggle is unclipped, the one piece SLEEV-IT marine penetration seal opens up to fit round the plastic pipe. The toggle clip is then closed and the installed SLEEV-IT marine penetration seal is ready for ‘stitch’ welding into position on the deck or bulkhead.

(This functionality makes the SLEEV-IT marine penetration seal an ideal product for retro-fit work as it can be very easily fitted after the pipe work has been installed).

For all smaller diameter plastic pipes (16mm to 40mm), Sleev-it Fire Systems Ltd have designed an easy to close, hinge and tab fixing. The hinged mechanism enables the small penetration seal to open up and be wrapped round the pipe and the tab fixing is simply inserted into the slot once the penetration seal is closed round the pipe, and bent backwards to form a restraint against the penetration seal opening.

The stainless steel casing that holds the intumescent material is attached to a 3mm thick, mild steel fixing flange. The purpose of this design feature is to enable the fixing of the SLEEV-IT marine penetration seal to the deck or bulkhead by either ‘stitch’ welding or by using screws.

The mild steel flange also allows the SLEEV-IT marine penetration seal to cover any gaps left where an oversized or non circular hole has been cut into the deck or bulkhead.

Only one SLEEV-IT marine penetration seal needs to be fitted to either the underside or top side of the deck or either side of the bulkhead (insulated or non insulated side).
